A local community coming together to help a family of nine who lost their home in a devastating fire Wednesday afternoon.  The couple moved to the house along Ayva Lane in Gregg Township more than a decade ago.  The place is a total loss and a State Fire Marshall continues to look for a cause.  The Penns Valley community is helping the family out by collecting donations at the Grace Baptist Church....

Smoking in public places in Punxsutawney almost became illegal this week.  Borough Council voted to ban it but the Mayor quickly vetoed.  Under the ban smoking would be off limits in public areas such as parks and playgrounds.  Violators would be subject to fines up to 300 dollars but the Mayor said no to the idea.  Borough Council Members say the Mayor doesn't understand the dangers of second hand smoke.  The Council President says he plans to raise this issue again at the next meeting if they get a majority plus one vote that will override the Mayor's veto....

They weren't just reading about the revolution they were acting out the battle by playing capture the flag.  It's all part of the new Social Studies curriculum for the Eighth Graders at Windber Middle School.  Instead of sitting in the classroom the students were split into teams and the game was rigged to show students how the war was fought.  The new cirriculum is being tested with one group od students.  If it's successful it will be expanded next year.
