The DuBois Pennsylvania Humanitarian Riders presented a check Tuesday to help a Clearfield County boy battling cancer visit Hawaii. Maddox Hyde, 13, of DuBois, had a dream to visit Hawaii because it's his birthplace. His father, a U.S. Marine, was also stationed in Oahu. A member of the Humanitarian Riders, Jerry Volpe said they hold a fundraiser every year and donate some of the proceeds back to the surrounding area. "This year with Maddox being here from Dubois, we wanted to keep the money local and it was the perfect situation to donate." The Humanitarian Riders gave Maddox and his family more than $700. They also made him an honorary member of their group. Maddox wad diagnosed with neuroblastoma when he was 6 years old and is currently battling cancer again for a third time. A Pittsburgh-based nonprofit organization, Jamie's Dream, also raised $12,000 to send Maddox and his family to Hawaii. A benefit spaghetti dinner for Maddox will be held on Sunday, October 1st at the VFW Post 813 in DuBois from noon to 6 p.m. The dinner is $7 and includes a Chinese auction, 50/50 and DJ Chewy.
