Centre County Judge Thomas Kistler is facing DUI charges as a result of a crash last month in which he struck a security officer directing traffic. Kistler was charged Thursday by State College police with driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance, obedience to authorized persons directing traffic and obedience to traffic control devices. According to a criminal complaint State College police said Kistler had a blood alcohol content of .231 percent more than twice the legal limit of 0.08. Police said they were called to a crash on Park Avenue near Orchard Road September 30th after a report of a security officer directing traffic after the Penn State, Indiana football game being been struck in the leg by Kistler's 2015 Ford 150 pickup truck. Police said the contact was minor but officers said Kistler failed to stop. Once he was stopped police said Kistler denied hitting the security officer. Police said Kistler had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath and his speech was slurred. Police said Kistler failed standard field sobriety tests and was taken into custody. He later was taken to Mount Nittany Medical Center for a blood draw.
