The love for Houtzdale Mayor Bud George, who was also a state representative, was shown by the community as he won the mayoral race in the borough. George, who passed away at 89 in September, was the lone name on the November ballot. He garnered 49 votes, one more than write in challenger Robert Hanna. Houtzdale Solicitor Dan Nelson said they were surprised that George won but it showed the love the people of the community had for the late lawmaker. "He was a giant of public service in Houtzdale and Clearfield County, he had a tremendous legacy." George served in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from 1974 to 2012 representing Clearfield and Centre counties. Following his time in Harrisburg, George served as the mayor of Houtzdale. As for as the next mayor of Houtzdale Nelson said once the borough receives the certified results in December, they will likely wait to January to post the mayor opening. From there, borough council will either interview candidates, or go off of letters of interest that they receive. Council will then vote to appoint the new mayor. If council members are split and the vacancy board cannot break that split, a Clearfield County judge would then appoint the mayor. Officials with the Clearfield County Elections Office said the position will be back on the ballot in two years
