State police and the Elk County District Attorney's Office is investigating an officer involved shooting in Elk County. According to police, a Johnsonburg officer shot a 30 year old man during a physical altercation. Police said the Johnsonburg Borough officer came in contact with the man just after midnight Tuesday on the 100 block of West Center Street pursuant to a warrant. According to police, the man resisted the officer and the two fought for several minutes. The officer was unable to control the suspect and the officer fired one round striking the suspect in the torso. Additional officers arrived and the man was taken to Penn Highlands Elk Hospital. He was transferred to a trauma hospital where he is in stable condition. The officer involved in the shooting was taken to a local hospital. As the Elk County District Attorney reviews the case, the officer has been placed on administrative leave pending the investigation, per Johnsonburg Borough Police Department policy.
