Drivers passing through part of Centre County now have another place to stop and stretch their legs. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced this week that the rest areas on Interstate 80 near Snow Shoe are now open. The locations near mile marker 146 in Centre County had been closed since mid August so crews could make renovations as part of a bigger project aimed at rehabilitating I-80. The project in Snow Shoe included improvements to the parking area, curbs and sidewalks. Officials said State College based HRI Inc. will mill and repave the road, and improve drainage, on a section of Interstate 80 that stretches from the viaduct bridges to the Yarnell area at mile marker 154 in 2018. According to officials, that project will cost $21.7 million. For more information on this project and others, you can visit www.511PA.com.
