A lack of new ambulance volunteers and new firefighters has become a common problem for a lot of communities, but in Centre County, they are trying a new approach to hopefully increase recruitment. The Public Safety Training Center for the past decade that served as a place for firefighters, police and other emergency personnel to receive hands on training. In recent years, new programs are drawing a growing number of trainees from neighboring counties. The Center a valuable tool for new volunteers. County Administrators offering new scholarships for volunteer emergency responders. It's hoped there will be multiple benefits, an increase in good volunteers and a strengthened and healthier work force. A graduation was held for firefighters who trained at the Center. The 27 who received diplomas is the highest number of graduates since the program has been offered.
