A former Beta Theta Pi fraternity member is intending to enter a guilty plea surrounding the death of Timothy Piazza. In an order dated May 30, Ryan Burke plans on tendering a guilty plea Wednesday with sentencing slated for July 31. If the plea is accepted, Burke would be the first person to accept guilt in the death of Piazza, who died in February 2017 following an event at the Beta Theta Pi house. "We are pleased to see one individual take responsibility and encourage others to follow in his steps," said Piazza family attorney Tom Kline. Burke was charged in November of last year in a second round of charges levied by then District Attorney Stacy Parks Miller after a basement tape revealed more of what transpired the night that led to Piazza's death. Burke and 11 other defendants had numerous charges dropped in May. The charges that were going to trial against Burke were four counts of hazing, four counts of furnishing alcohol and one count of purchasing alcohol by a minor. It is not known which charges Burke intends to plead guilty to.
