A second former Beta Theta Pi fraternity member has entered a guilty plea for his role in the death of Timothy Piazza. Joseph Ems Jr. pleaded guilty to one count of hazing and one count of furnishing alcohol to minors. Ems will be sentenced Sept. 27 in Bellefonte. Ems' guilty plea comes eight days after Ryan Burke, the first former fraternity member to plead in the case, received no jail time after pleading guilty in June. Based on Burke's sentence, it is unlikely Ems will see jail time. Five other former members are scheduled to have preliminary hearings on refiled charges later this month. The remaining brothers charged in the case are slated to go to trial in February.
