A Bellefonte man is facing charges for firebombing the Centre County Courthouse and Centre County Sheriff's office this week. Dennis Hassinger, 48, was arrested Friday afternoon after police issued a search warrant earlier that morning. This comes after officials discovered holes in the roofs of the buildings that they said were caused by burns. They said flammable containers were found on the roofs as well. Police said they have surveillance video showing Hassinger lighting an object and throwing it onto the courthouse. Police said a 20 by 30-inch hole was burned into the roof and another, similar hole was burned into the roof of the Sheriff's Office. Hassinger is facing seven criminal counts involving various arson charges. He has a long criminal history dating back to 1996, according to police. They said various law enforcement personnel recognized him when they saw the surveillance video. Hassinger is jailed in the Centre County Prison. He was denied bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for later this month.
