Police in South Florida said a woman was found dead in a condo following a standoff with police and her husband last week. According to our sister station WPEC, 49-year-old Arthur Horlbeck and 57-year-old Edana Chokey were both dead by the time SWAT team members entered their Jupiter condo the evening of Jan. 31. Chokey was a former Altoona resident, according to information obtained from LexisNexis, a company that provides legal research. WPEC reports police responded to several calls of shots fired at Villas on the Green sometime around 5 p.m. Jupiter police told WPEC officers tried to get in contact with the suspect for hours but were unsuccessful. Police believe the apparent murder-suicide was carried out by Horlbeck, according to WPEC. No motive has been released by police, and the investigation is ongoing. According to information obtained by WPEC, Horlbeck has had past troubles with the law, including assaulting a man and threatening the mayor of Jupiter. Authorities said Horlbeck pleaded guilty to the 2017 assault. WPEC reports the threats made to the mayor did not mention him by name, but a Facebook post made by Horlbeck said "I'm going to meet the Jupiter mayor and if I don't get answers I will kill him." Police took extra precaution to keep the mayor and his family safe, but there was no paperwork stating if Horlbeck was charged for the threats.
