Former employees of recently closed North American Communications are looking to get back to work. Dozens met in the Blair County Convention Center Wednesday for a PA Career Link event helping workers quickly transition into new jobs. The event provided information about resources available from state and local organizations. The crowd heard presentations on compensation, health insurance and job training. Presenters also offered help searching for new jobs and preparing for interviews. Organizers said they often encounter workers who haven't had to search for a new job in decades. "When unforeseen events happen, you find yourself in a situation where you have an applied for a job in a very long time, so the skills even looking for employment have evolved from when perhaps they first got there first job," said Ruben Pachay, director of bureau of workforce partnership and operations. So, through the PA at career link system we are able to prop them up and help them on how to do job searches in the more modern era if you will," Pachay said. Many former employees will be paired with a PA Career Link case manager to help assess their needs and get them back to work.
