In Centre County, a police-involved shooting death this year has sparked an ongoing discussion on a number of issues, including mental health services. That discussion will continue this week with a public meeting. One of the more surprising numbers resulting from the police-involved shooting is that in Centre County, the number of requests for police to serve mental health warrants known as 302 warrants, has more than tripled in just one year. On March, police went to Osaze Osagie's apartment to serve him with a 302 warrant. Osagie died after police say he lunged at them with a knife. In the report on the deadly shooting, the number of 302 mental health warrants issued in Centre County is discussed. Several months later there's still no definitive reason for the huge increase in the 302 warrant cases. We're told a contributing reason is that more people are asking for more help. So far this year in Centre County, through the first six months, police have handled close to 160 302 warrant cases Centre County administrators will hold what' termed a community discussion on the county's mental health programs and services. It will be Thursday evening at the Courthouse Annex Building in Bellefonte.
