As the nation mourns this weekend's mass shootings, more is being learned about a local student who fell victim to the violence in Dayton. Nicholas Cumer, 25, was a student at St. Francis University, and was in Dayton on an internship. Staff members say he was a graduate student in the Master of Cancer Care Program, and had completed his undergraduate work at Saint Francis as well. The university president, the Rev. Malaci Van Tassell, released a statement saying Cumer was in Dayton for his internship program at the Maple Tree Cancer Alliance. Those close to Cumer say he was very involved in school, caring and an incredible person. Staff members say they want students to know they're here for them during this time. A mass will be held at the university's Immaculate Conception Chapel Tuesday at 7 p.m. The university president says Cumer was recognized by the school this year for completing more than 100 hours of community service. He was also a graduate assistant with the university's marching band.
