Centre Crest Update

Changes are coming to one of the largest buildings owned by Centre County government as the Centre Crest nursing home will soon be moving to a new facility. Off the Benner Pike in College Township, the new Centre Crest is taking shape: It will offer more space and more services in a greatly updated setting for the nursing home's residents. Centre County government has owned the current Centre Crest facility in Bellefonte for nearly 80 years. Several years ago, the operation was transferred to a nonprofit organization, which will own the new facility. But the county will still have the current building and when it becomes vacant, probably within a year what's next? Officials say they'll make an announcement soon as they get architects and others to look at the building. Without revealing further details, the commission chairman says the study will be a huge undertaking and a collaborative effort to include input from Bellefonte Borough, the public and others, in determining the best use for the Centre Crest building.
