An Altoona woman was taken into custody on Independence Day after she tried to kill members of her family, police say. Police say 43-year-old Tracey McClellan suffers from a mental illness and told detectives she believed her family was going to be captured and tortured by someone, so she decided that she would kill her family members and then herself to save them.

Department officials said they're out of space in their administrative offices. One of their stations is forced to work out of a storage room at Lakemont Park, but an upgrade is on the way.

Altoona Area School District officials say a baseball field at an elementary school was seriously damaged after a stolen pickup truck drove over the property. The incident happened early Saturday morning at the Pleasant Valley Elementary School. Officials say the incident was captured on the school's security cameras. The field has been deemed unplayable for the time being, and there is no indication of when the field will be fixed.
