After months of debate, a Centre County school district is reversing an earlier proposal to do away with its controversial nickname.
The Bellefonte school board, Tuesday night, decided the district is returning to being known as the Red Raiders.
Last April, a motion was approved to do away with the nickname.
It sparked a spirited debate in the Bellefonte community.
Four new members were elected to the school board in November.
Many of those in favor of keeping the nickname argued it’s been part of the school district’s identity for nearly 80 years.
