Blair County Keystone Enterprise Zones

The Blair County Commissioners held a meeting this Morning where a Representative from the Altoona Blair County Development Corporation asked the commissioners to approve an application.

That application is for the Keystone Enterprise Zone, also called the Blair County Enterprise Zone. To be used as a key to economic development in the county.

The status of the current zones are expiring. So they’re looking to solidify those, and a few new ones for future use.

Several area municipalities, such as Altoona, Logan Township, Hollidaysburg, Tyrone, Williamsburg and Roaring Spring will have the opportunity to participate.

“One of the parts of the application is a five year plan. And so, there are projects, potential projects, that have been identified in each of these municipalities this would be likely prospects, candidates, for grants and loans through the Enterprise Zone Program.”

Advantages to Enterprise Zone status are tax credits for developers looking to build in the zones, financing at favorable loan rates and the ability to qualify for various state grants.

Discussions will be renewed during the commissioner’s business meeting Thursday Morning.
