Cambria County Prison Riot

Warden Christian Smith with the Cambria County Prison released more information surrounding the incident at the prison.

According to Smith, a group of 31 inmates in a housing unit began to riot just before 1:00 p.m. That’s when several law enforcement agencies, including SERT and SWAT, and emergency personnel responded to the prison.

Smith said negotiations with inmates began around 3:30 p.m. and everything was under control two and a half hours later. According to Smith, the inmates were removed from the housing unit and placed in another one.

No injuries were reported between staff and inmates. However, the housing unit suffered significant damage.

The investigation is ongoing.
