Camp Woodward Lawsuit Update

The owners of a Centre County sports camp are asking a judge to dismiss a federal lawsuit that includes claims of sexual abuse by a former camp counselor.

In their response filed this week, the owners of Camp Woodward distanced themselves from former gymnastics coach Nathan Singer, who worked at the camp in 2016.

That is when an unnamed junior counselor claims Singer pursued an intimate, inappropriate relationship with her when she was just 17 years old.

The Woodward owners say a two-year statute of limitations has expired in the case, and they shouldn’t be held liable for sexual abuse claims against Singer.

It’s the second abuse case involving Singer and Woodward as he was also accused of molesting a 14-year-old girl at the camp in 2019.

In the suit involving the junior counselor, the accuser claims Woodward continued to employ Singer even after the allegations were made, but Woodward denies that claim.

Singer was later suspended by USA Gymnastics, and earlier this year, Woodward announced that it was dropping what it terms as its “gymnastics programming.”
