Camp Woodward Lawsuit

A lawsuit filed last year involving allegations of sexual misconduct at a well known Centre County sports camp has now been moved to Federal Court.

The owner of the property saying some of the defendant corporations named should be removed from the suit because they haven’t been affiliated with the property for more than a decade.

Gary Sinderson explains.

The suit filed in Centre County court late last year was filed by parents of a teenager who attended Camp Woodward for three years, and claims a gymnastics coach at the camp groped her and touched her inappropriately in 2018 and 2019.

No criminal charges have been filed against the coach.

USA gymnastics though, has suspended the coach named in the suit from all contact with that organization and its participants.

In the new Federal suit filing, the owner of Camp Woodward, the Powdr Corporation , says in July of 2011, the corporation purchased the camp and other facilities known as the Woodward Entities.

Six years before the teen making the accusations, attended the camp. That other defendants with the Woodward name that were named in the original suit are now dormant,or no longer have any affiliation with the Centre County facility.

Powdr hasn’t filed a response to the specific accusations in court, but previously stated they take the allegation seriously with the safety of campers a top priority.
