Celebrating 70 Years as Valentines

What’s Valentine’s Day without a local Love Story? One happy couple in Cambria County is celebrating over 70 Valentine’s Days together. We spoke to them about their secrets to a long, happy relationship. We first met Leroy and Phyllis Howard last month when they celebrated their 70th Wedding Anniversary. Now, after spending decades of Valentine’s Days together, they’re more in love than ever before.

Phyllis Howard of Johnstown gets a Valentine from her Husband Leroy every year. He never missed one in the last 70 years. After meeting as kids on the playground, their love story began when they played “spin the bottle” at Phyllis’ Birthday party. A few years later, they secretly tied the knot before Leroy went into the Service. And 70 years later, the couple is wearing matching sweatshirts and heading out to dinner to celebrate.

They credit going to Church together every Sunday for keeping them together and never going to bed angry. The couple had one Son together and a Grandson, which they say are the best things that ever happened to them.
