Two Federal Offices in Centre County are reportedly shutting down, as part of the Department Of Government Efficiency’s crackdown on Federal spending.
According to the Department Of Government Efficiency’s website, both the U.S. Fish And Wildlife Services and U.S. Department Of Labor offices leases in Centre County are being terminated.
Officials in Centre County say they are unsure about what this means for the staff of those Federal Offices.
County Commissioner Mark Higgins tells us that he has not been told whether staff will be transferred to other offices or laid off entirely.
“We’re also kind of unsure what level of cuts we’re looking at here at county government. Could be a few hundred thousand, could be six million, could be twenty million. You start throwing in Medicaid cuts, could be, god knows, tens of millions. We don’t know. It’s very stressful. We just don’t know.”
The Department Of Government Efficiency says the closing of these two offices will save an estimated nearly 900 thousand dollars.
