For Greg Kight, not the tale of two cities, rather the tale of two towns he owns Waffle Shop restaurants in Bellefonte and State College
“My state college one is still closed, here in Bellefonte its is what it is”
Kight says closing or greatly limiting a restaurant’s normal business,is much more than simply putting most of the food in a freezer, and laying off employees
“In fact when we closed in march,we gave ten thousand dollars worth of food to food banks, we get deliveries twice a week, its not stuff you can freeze”
Kight didn’t reopen in State College restaurant because of concerns for the safety of customers and staff with covid cases increasing. Now,with word of another state mandate coming,he questions the decision making
“Should we have shut down longer in March for 60 days, instead shutting opening and the shutting again, I get it, I know this is serious problem with covid, but I think we could of handled it better”
Kight says despite going through money saved after 20 years in business, he’s confident his restaurants will survive.
