The Giving USA Foundation reports that Americans donated nearly $500 billion to charity in 2020. That generosity supports many amazing organizations, but unfortunately, scammers use our generosity against us as they trick us into lining their own pockets instead. Michelle Nutter from the Pennsylvania Office of the Attorney General has some tips to help protect us from those scammers.
Charitable Giving Tips
- Know your charity
- Know how your money will be spent
- Know your charity’s goals
- Question telephone solicitors and request ID from door-to-door solicitors
- Know your rights when it comes to unordered merchandise
