COVID-19 Update May 22nd

The Pennsylvania Department of Health reported 1,658 new coronavirus cases in the state Saturday, bringing the statewide total to 1,195,013. Health Officials say 93% of the state’s total cases are considered to be recovered.

State Health Officials reported 39 new COVID-related deaths across the state, bringing Pennsylvania’s death toll to 27,029. According to the Department of Health’s hospital dashboard, 1,198 people are hospitalized with the virus across Pennsylvania, and 291 are in the Intensive Care Unit.

Here Locally, 89 new cases and one more death were reported in our viewing area. Cambria reported an increase of 22 new cases, Blair reported 21, Centre reported 14, Clearfield reported 13, Somerset reported 9, Jefferson reported 5, Bedford reported 3 and Huntingdon reported two new cases. No new cases were reported in Elk and Cameron counties.

Blair County also reported one additional death.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 51% of Adults in Pennsylvania are fully vaccinated. Which is close to 4.5 Million Adults fully vaccinated. Our region’s Northern Counties continue to lead the way in vaccinations with Elk, Centre and Cameron Counties at the top of the list for the highest percentage of Adults fully vaccinated.
