COVID-19 Update May 8th

The Pennsylvania Department of Health reported 2,610 new Coronavirus cases in the state Saturday, bringing the statewide total to 1,172,288. Health officials say 90% of the state’s total cases are considered to be recovered. State health officials reported 38 new COVID-related deaths across the state, bringing Pennsylvania’s death toll to 26,532. According to the Department of Health’s hospital dashboard, 1,924 people are hospitalized with the virus across Pennsylvania and and 427 are in the Intensive Care Unit.

Here Locally, 240 new cases were reported in our viewing area. Cambria reported an increase of 60 new cases, Blair reported 51, Centre reported 45, Somerset reported 28, Clearfield reported 24, Huntingdon reported 14, Bedford reported 9, Jefferson reported 7, and Elk reported two new cases. No new cases were reported in Cameron County.

Five more deaths were reported in our viewing area. Blair and Somerset each reported two additional while Elk reported one. Huntingdon also reported one less death.

Over 3.8 Million Pennsylvanians are fully vaccinated. Here in our region, Elk County has vaccinated the highest percentage of their population with 38%. Cameron county is right behind with 37%. At the end of the list in our region is Bedford County with 21%.
