COVID-19 Update May 9th

The Pennsylvania Department of Health reported 1,376 new Coronavirus cases across the State on Sunday, bringing the overall total to 1,173,664. However, Health Officials say 90% of the state’s total cases are considered recovered at this time. State Health Officials reported an additional 11 new deaths, bringing that total to 26,543. According to the Department of Health’s hospital dashboard, there are 1,924 Pennsylvanians hospitalized and 427 in the ICU.

We have 78 new cases reported across our viewing area. Blair reported 22 cases, Cambria and Huntingdon each reported 11, Centre and Clearfield both reported an increase of 9. Bedford reported 8. Somerset with 5, Jefferson reported 2 more cases, and Elk reported just one. Cameron County reported no new cases.

Two more deaths were reported locally. One coming from Blair County and another from Cambria County.

As for vaccinations, over 3.8 Million Pennsylvanians are fully vaccinated. The CDC says that is 45.3% of adults. Once we hit 70%, the Department of Health says they will lift the mask mandate. Leading the way for local vaccination rates are Elk and Cameron Counties.
