The Pirates kicked off the Major League Baseball season in St Louis Yesterday, and Today it’s time to welcome back Altoona Curve baseball for the Bucs AA Affiliate.
The chase for another league title begins for the Curve at home. The first of a 3 game weekend series.
Starting on the mound first this season will be Carmen Mlodzinski. A top 20 prospect for the Pirates. The 23 year old knew almost 10 years ago that he wanted to be a professional baseball player. That dream became a reality back in 2020 when he was drafted by Pittsburgh.
Last year he spent most of his time with the Greensboro Grasshoppers where he had an era of 393. Just a tick under 4. That childhood dream has blossomed and so has Mlodzinski as he climbs his way up the farm system.
”When I was 14 or 15 years old I commented to South Carolina and I knew that committing to, at the time they were the number 1 team in the country, and obviously an SEC baseball school with a lot of talented guys to come through there. I thought at that moment right there that I probably had a chance to be a professional baseball player and potentially a big leaguer”
That dream steadily keeps unfolding. This is his first professional opening day start.
He told us earlier this week that anyone in the pitching staff could have got the start. But instead they are all just really excited for this opening day game.
