DuBois City Manager Herm Suplizio said the million dollar Maple Avenue project consists of a lot parts. From replacing sidewalks, a water line, lead lines and the removal of branches.
“We have to dig down 18 inches, get out all of the old rock soil that’s in there and put it up with proper fill and all that,” he said.
He said part of this project is being funded by the state and the other half by the city of DuBois.
“The water line is over 100 years old, so we thought it would be crazy to be honest with you to do all of that work to the road but not replace the water line underneath,” said Suplizio.
As a precaution Suplizio said a boil advisory is in affect for residents along Maple Avenue which is a concern for some.
But he said its only temporary and residents should boil their water for drinking purposes only, “It’s a nuisance, we know that this project is an inconvenience. it’s just a big project we have undertaken here, something we couldn’t let go.”
Suplizio said they hope to get the water line replaced within the next month.
