Earl Monroe Basketball School

A school designed to develop Tomorrow’s basketball stars opened after 8 years in the making.

110 ninth graders began their journey a few weeks ago at the Earl Monroe New Renaissance Basketball School named after the New York Knicks star of the 70s
Eventually enrollment will be capped at 440

For now the temporary location is in Pelham bay before moving to its 60-thousand square foot permanent home in the south Bronx in 2024.

“You’re the face of school, You’re the first class to come people behind you do.”

Students are taught math language arts, science and history but also specialized coursework nutrition, uniform design, coaching, marketing, journalism and player representation.

A charter school focused on all areas of basketball a passion project eight years in the making from Brooklyn raised film maker Dan Klores.

“We had the wherewithal to keep going keep fighting.”

The school has attracted support major companies like NIKE and the NBA commissioner Adam Silver attended the ribbon cutting this morning..with a message for the students.

“Please take advantage of this school you’ll be so successful”
