Falls Creek Fire

Around 6:30 Sunday evening, Fire crews were called to the 100 block of Main St in Falls Creek for an apartment building fire.

Tim Britton, the owner of the building, says 16 people were inside at the time of the fire, their ages ranging from 3 to 65 years old.

“Everybody in that building today is officially homeless. A lot of them are placed through places and kudos to the Red Cross for assisting late last night.”

Britton says all of his tenants got out safely but some pets died in the fire.

Today, he says it’s been all hands on deck to help these victims get back on their feet.

“I dedicated my entire office as a collection site and they can call us for information on what to do. We set up bank accounts and we’re actually getting specific and individual needs of what some of the tenants’ actually immediate needs are besides housing.”

Authorities say the fire started in the back of the apartment building but as of now the cause is still under investigation.

“The scene was pretty intense. We were there with mutual aid companies probably a good 3-4 hours. I know our department here in Falls Creek were there until the wee hours of the morning.”

Britton’s not sure if the building is a total loss but he thanks the community for all of their support.

“There were neighbors escorting fire victims and residents into their homes, they were taking care of kids. There was food offered, Red Cross was passing out hot dogs and water, blankets”
