A family is grieving after a tragic house fire erupted overnight in Blair County.

Fire officials say the cause of the fire is still unknown, but speculate it could have started from a dropped cigarette.

The Blair County community is reeling after a late night fire tragically claimed the life of Tammy Stewart, with a cause of the fire that is still yet to be revealed.

Late Monday night firefighters were called to a house fire on 400 South Second Street in Bellwood, Blair County.

The Blair County Coroner’s Office arrived at the scene right after midnight, and confirmed the death of 61 year old Tammy Stewart at the scene.

“She loved life. She lived life to the fullest. The rest of the family’s bad shape.”

Officials say the fire and its smoke ravished through the house, taking apart the top floor, and blowing out all of its windows.

Investigators are still looking to determine a official cause of the fire, but say it could have been due to a forgotten cigarette that was not put out.

“She was on, there’s a couch right inside that window that runs this way and she was laying on the couch and they figured maybe she was smoking and dropped a cigarette, went to sleep, dropped a cigarette.”

An autopsy is scheduled for march 12th.
