Four Suspects Charged in Death of K-9 Titan

Four of the five suspects charged in the death of Johnstown K-9 officer Titan were sentenced Friday, according to the Cambria County District Attorney’s office.

K-9 Titan died last November after falling through an unsecured, open elevator shaft while searching for the burglary suspects.

23-year-old Makayla McCarty was sentenced to 60 months probation on the burglary charge, 24 months probation for resisting arrest and 36 months probation for possessing an instrument of crime.

25-year-old Corey McCarty was also sentenced to 60 months probation on the burglary charge, 24 months probation for resisting arrest and 60 months for possessing an instrument of crime.

28-year-old Derrick McCarty was sentenced to 12-24 months in prison on the burglary charge, which will be followed by 36 months probation. He was also sentenced to 24 months probation for resisting arrest and 60 months probation for possessing an instrument of crime.

53-year-old Robert McCarty was sentenced to 120 months in prison on the burglary charge, which will be followed by 36 months probation. He was also sentenced to 24 months probation for resisting arrest and 60 months probation for possessing an instrument of crime.

The suspects were also ordered to pay a combined $8,5000 in restitution to the Johnstown police department and Officer Brian Stevens, K-9 Titan’s handler.

As for the fifth suspect charged, 26-year-old Sean Robertson, the DA’s office says his next court date is scheduled for January 5.
