A fundraiser is being held this weekend to help raise money for a girl from Loretto in need of a Diabetic Alert Service Dog.
Jocelyn was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes when she was 6 years old.
She is now 10, and Jocelyn’s mother says that her sugar rises and drops very quickly on a day to day basis and that a Diabetic Alert Dog would help provide her with an extra sense of security.
“She does have a DEX, which does track her sugars, but there’s times where it is not completely accurate, and this dog will help us with catching her lows before she’s in severe lows, which we have quite frequently.”
The service dog costs $25,500 so the family is holding a basket raffle this Saturday at St. Michael’s School Hall in Loretto.
The event will start at 9 that morning and feature over 200 baskets, food, and a bake sale.
The raffle will be drawn around 6 that evening.
