Gindlesperger Facing Charges

A Somerset County woman is facing a multitude of felony charges after her 3 month old child died from an apparent overdose. Wednesday, she had her preliminary hearing

Stoystown woman, Chauntel Gindlesperger is facing multiple felonies after her 3 month old child died of an overdose. According to the criminal complaint, the incident took place back in October of 2020.

Wednesday during her preliminary hearing the commonwealth added two additional charges against Gindlesperger, aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a child.

This in addition to the original charges filed against her which include criminal homicide.

During the preliminary hearing, exert pathologist, Dr. Lauren Huddle took the stand and explain the infants cause of death was acute diphenhydramine toxicity. Huddle says this drug is most commonly seen in the form of Benadryl and Zzzquil; both of which Gindlesperger told police she had given to the victim, according to testimonies. The level of diphenhydramine found during the victim’s toxicology report was at a lethal level.

“We heard that the average lethal level for a child of that age is approximately 1000 nanograms per milliliter and this child had nearly 8,000 nanograms per milliliter. So to me this is an intentional act that for whatever reason she just decided she didn’t want to be a mom anymore I don’t know why,” said Somerset District Attorney, Jeff Thomas.

District Judge William Seger said the commonwealth provided enough evidence today to move forward with proceedings. Gindlesperger will soon be formally arraigned. Stay with 6 News for the latest details in this case.
