More than two million people in Florida remain without power in the wake of Hurricane Ian, which has been downgraded to a Tropical Storm Thursday morning as it continues to make its way across Florida.
Governor Ron DeSantis, in a press conference, said it is still a hazardous situation.
“The impacts of the storm are historic,” he said, “we’ve never seen a flood event like this, storm surge of this magnitude.”
Ian made landfall on Wednesday as a Category 4 storm, causing massive storm surges that devastated Florida’s west coast.
On Thursday, President Biden approved Federal funds for recovery efforts in the state.
DeSantis is speaking at the State Emergency Operations Center at 8:45 a.m. and will be joined by FDEM Director Kevin Guthrie.
