A water rescue effort on the Conemaugh River turned up empty.
The search began shortly after 10:00 p.m. Saturday near Broad Street and Laurel Avenue in Johnstown’s West End.
The search was stopped around midnight without any results, but crews on scene tell 6 News that someone fitting the description of the person they were looking for in the river was seen flagging down vehicles on the road further downstream.
Police shut down the bridge connecting Broad Street and Cooper Avenue during the search.
