After hearing from the prosecution’s DNA expert on Tuesday, the defense called their own DNA expert to the stand. Officials say that both sides will now prepare to give their closing arguments first thing Thursday Morning.
50 Year old Morico Johnson is accused of killing 22 year old Christine McWhorter and 31 year old Beatrice Daniels in Mount Union in 2009.
On Tuesday, the Prosecution called up a DNA expert witness, who testified that Johnson’s DNA matched three bloodstains at the crime scene.
For nearly a decade, State Police had no suspects, and troopers testified that they sought Johnson out after lab reports gave them four possible suspects in 2018.
According to the Commonwealth’s expert witness, the chances of randomly matching someone’s DNA to the blood at the scene are nearly impossible.
On Wednesday, the defense called up a DNA expert of their own, who testified about how the other DNA found at the scene did not match Johnson but did not dispute the findings shown to the jury on Tuesday.
Over the course of the emotional seven day trial, the jury has heard from nearly 30 witnesses and been presented with more than 200 pieces of evidence.
After closing arguments on Thursday, the jury will have Johnson’s fate in their hands, and we will continue to keep you updated on this trial, and what decision is reached.
