K-9 Officer Dies in Line of Duty

Johnstown Police say a valued member of their Department has died in the line of duty after 6 years of service. K-9 Officer Titan died during an investigation early this morning while searching for several burglary suspects. Police responded to the old Goodwill warehouse on Maple Avenue in Johnstown early this morning for a potential burglary. Police took two of the five into custody soon after they arrived. They called in the K-9 Unit to help search for the other three. During that search, Police say Titan fell through an open and unsecured elevator shaft on the fourth floor of the building. Police initiated search and rescue, but Titan’s injuries were fatal. The Department says the remaining suspects were apprehended and charges related to the alleged robbery are pending as the investigation continues.

A Police escort for Titan will be done Monday morning beginning at 11am from the Public Safety Building to the Hindman Funeral Home on Frankstown Road. The route will travel along Washington Street to Johns St, then onto Main Street then to Frankstown Road. For those that wish to pay their respects, Police ask you not to come to the Public Safety Building or Hindman Funeral Home parking lot, out of respect for the K-9 Unit Officers.
