Local elections offices are preparing for the primary election in a few weeks. With some offices seeing a small load of absentee ballots.
Chelsea Johnson shows us how Jefferson County is preparing for the big day on May 18th.
With the primary election just a few weeks away, Jefferson County officials say they’re up to date on their mail in ballots but they haven’t fully staffed all of their polling locations.
Karen Lupone, director of elections in Jefferson County, says they’re currently in the process of sending out mail in and absentee ballots.
She says they’re trying to secure poll workers for several of they’re precincts and she hopes by next week all of their polling locations will be filled.
Once that is finalized, the county will start training their poll workers to prepare them for May 18th.
As far as voter turnout, Lupone says it’s a bit to early to say if in person voting is down this election.
She says they haven’t had a lot of voters come into the office for early voting.
The deadline to register for this year’s primary is May 8th.
