Only on what could happen to a former prison in September, Clearfield County commissioners approved a five year agreement with Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE,
and to privately run Geo Group to operate Moshannon Valley Correctional Center as an immigrant detention center.
The ACLU then filed a lawsuit against the commissioners for not providing public notice of the meeting to sign the agreement. Today, a public meeting was held and many of the
locals spoke out in favor of the deal because it would bring in jobs, while others said the commissioners shouldn’t contact shouldn’t contract with ICE or the Geo Group
because there are abuse allegations against them. Many residents still said that they didn’t know about today’s public meeting until just the last day or so and would have
liked more notice.
