The planned closing of the Moshannon Valley Correctional Facility is the result of one of the new executive orders signed by President Biden.
The prison, which is operated by a private company, houses federal inmates.
The order says that the United States Attorney General shall not renew federal department of justice contracts with privately operated detention facilities.
The Moshannon Valley Facility houses up to 18 hundred inmates, with close to 280 employees and is now slated to close on March 31st.
The company owning the prison says they’re marketing the facility to state and local agencies.
