With incoming President Donald Trump vowing mass deportation of immigrants, its uncertain what that could mean for the Federal Immigration Processing Center in Clearfield County which is the subject of a Federal Lawsuit over complaints about cruel conditions.
The Moshannon Valley Processing Center, near Philipsburg, is the largest immigration detention center in the Northeast with over 1800 beds.
Many who are held there are awaiting their immigration cases to be processed in court.
In recent weeks questions about the future of similar centers nationwide, with the incoming Trump Administration as part of deportation procedures.
The Federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency is reportedly looking at expanding centers elsewhere but so far no announcement of any changes at the Moshannon Valley Center.
Earlier this year the American Civil Liberties Union of Pennsylvania filing a Federal suit with the Department of Homeland Security’s office for civil rights and civil liberties over the conditions at Moshannon Valley.
Which the ACLU described as horrific.
The Homeland Security Office responded with plans to do an onsite inspection at the facility, confirming they received 88 complaints of alleged violations, ranging from improper medical and mental helathcare, to excessive use of force.
Lawsuits from those being held at Moshannon Valley continue. This one was just filed a few weeks ago.
The ACLU is calling on Homeland Security to release the results of their inspection, to provide a full and public record of their findings and recommendations.
