A fundraiser in honor of the late. County Corrections Officer Rhonda Russell is happening tomorrow in Altoona. Russell was killed last month during a struggle with a prisoner.
Some in the community want to make sure that her memory lives on. Now, after Russell died in Line of duty last month, the community has come to her family’s aid.
Starting at 8:00 tomorrow morning, folks can come to the underground gym to whip up a sweat for the fallen corrections officer and her family.
All the organizer asks is that you make a donation of any size and that is going to go directly to Russell’s family.
It’s called the memorial lift. Corrections Officer Lieutenant Chuck Vaughan organized this. Vaughn knows the Russell family personally and feels their pain.
“It’s a profession where it takes a special person to do it. And she was she was really good at her craft of being a corrections officer. So we just want to show that support to the family that, you know, she’ll never be forgotten.”
