Pennsylvania has watched as Omicron cases shot into the stratosphere and are now falling off the cliff.
Case averages quadrupled in 3 1/2 weeks in Pennsylvania between late December and mid-January but are now a little more than a third of what they were at their peak, according to Pennsylvania Department of Health data. The number hospitalized with COVID-19 is also down about 40 percent from its high mark.
But health leaders are remaining vigilant.
The DOH announced this week new testing locations in Clearfield and Somerset counties, in addition to ones in Blair and Centre County and one that just ended Friday in Cambria County.
A DOH spokesperson tells us that Cambria County had 1,771 tests completed at their testing site from Jan. 11 through Jan. 29. The average of 100 tests per day at a site that was capable of 450 tests per day.
Acting Secretary of Health Keara Klinepeter also announced Monday they’ll be opening a regional long-term care support site in Hollidaysburg.
While there is optimism the worst of this wave is behind us, health experts are reminding everyone we’re not out of the woods, yet.
