Hurricane Ian will be one of the strongest storms in history to impact Southwest Florida and volunteers from all around the country, including here in Pennsylvania, will be heading south to help.
Governor Tom Wolf announced that 45 members from Pennsylvania Task Force 1 will travel to South Carolina, and two members who were in Puerto Rico to help with Hurricane Fiona relief efforts were reassigned to Florida to help with Hurricane Ian response. The Red Cross of Greater Pennsylvania has also started sending volunteers to Florida to help.
“Right now we have eight volunteers from the Red Cross of Greater Pennsylvania in Florida that are on the ground supporting shelter and relief efforts,” said Nicole Roschella, Red Cross Greater Pennsylvania.
One of the eight volunteers in Florida is from Brockway in Jefferson County and is currently volunteering in a shelter. The Red Cross says they have twelve more volunteers from across the state on standby.
