The PA Supreme Court has requested the New Congressional District Map. Some of our area Lawmakers are responding to the situation. 5 Democratic Justices issued an order to lower a Judge to give them a report by Monday the recommends a new map, along with findings that support it.
State Rep. Carl Metzgar says the process needs to be reformed, but in a certain way. Metzgar saying: “I do think that it is broken. I think that the last time that we had a Constitutional crisis the Courts, particularly on the Congressional Map, they drew a map which is to write in a Law. The Courts were not supposed to write Laws in Pennsylvania. They can reject a Law based on its unconstitutionality, but they can’t rewrite it.”
Pennsylvania recently lost a Congressional Seat, and the new map must account for the decrease.
