Penguins vs Capitals Recap – 2/14

Watching the Penguins you can tell they love their Home Ice. They are perfect so far at Home and they wanted to keep that streak alive Sunday against the Washington Capitals. Despite a 1 point deficit to start the game, the Penguins had one of the best performances on Sunday.

Bryan Rust strikes first for Pittsburgh tying the game at 1 in the First Period. About 32 seconds later, the Pens win the face off. Cody Ceci takes a shot and Brandon Tanev is there for the rebound. Pens take the lead. That all started from winning the face off. The Pens won over 61% of Sunday’s face offs. They won another and Rust scores again on the Power Play.

Still in the Second Period, Jake Guentzel puts the puck in the net and finishes the play. Up 1 in the Third Period and empty net ahead is an instant score for Pittsburgh. Zach Aston-Reese plays two games and scores two goals. The Pens don’t settle for one empty net goal. The Captain on the prowl can’t be stopped, Crosby puts another one in the net. Penguins Win 6-3 in regulation. They played with the lead most of this game, something a little unfamiliar to the Team this year and Forward Byran Rust liked that difference. See video for comments from Rust and Coach Sullivan…

Here’s a look at the Penguins’ next game. They will be back at Home against Washington Tuesday night at 7pm. It’s a close race in the East Division. Every game counts and the Pens are doing well at Home.
