Workers at PennDOT are busy getting set for winter weather this season, they’re preparing the plows and calibrating the salt spreaders PennDOT, stressing the importance of drivers using caution when traveling during a snowstorm and they ask drivers to be patient, follow the plows at a safe distance and to not pass the plows.
Just like the rest of the working world, PennDOT is dealing with a lack of workers. So again, they are asking for your patience because their shortage could lead to an increase in time to clear the roadways.
“Typically, if we’re fully staffed on a winter storm call out, we try to maintain a two hour cycle time on all of our routes. However, with some of the driver shortages and having a double team on some routes during a heavy snowfall cycle, time could be extended.”
The Blair County PennDOT maintains over 4000 miles of roadway. They recently hired seven new drivers.
They’re currently being trained, and they have approximately six other vacancies within the county.
