Raystown Safety

Independence Day weekend is right around the corner, and that means dangers aplenty for those who celebrate a bit too much.

Local authorities held a joint press conference to remind Central Pa residents to be careful while boating and driving this weekend. Dylan Huberman reports from Raystown Lake.

Today, several enforcement agencies teamed up to announce their participation in operation dry water this weekend.

The national initiative strongly discourages driving and boating under the influence during July 4th celebrations.

The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Penndot and State Police partnered to encourage safe practices this weekend, including passing the keys to those who haven’t been drinking, wearing life jackets and more.

They say if you intend to get out on the water, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says you will have a lot of company.

“We anticipate there’s going to be somewhere in the neighborhood of 1,500 to 2,000 boats on the water at any given time this weekend, it’s going to be really busy. So, we just want to remind you that it…how important it is that everybody focus on the safety aspects of what you’re doing.”

They said if you intend to have alcohol this weekend, please pass your car or boat keys to someone else.
